The Flying Physicians Association (FPA) has been named the recipient of the National Aviation Hall of Fame’s 2007 Milton Caniff “Spirit of Flight” Award.
The FPA’s mission is to promote safety, education and human interest projects relating to medicine and aviation. The group has contributed to AOPA Air Safety Foundation projects and studies. It works closely with the FAA, funds an annual scholarship, and answers medical certification questions on its website. It also works closely with groups such as Angel Flight America, Wings of Mercy and Wings of Hope.
The “Spirit of Flight” Award was created in 1981 to acknowledge significant contributions to aviation made by a group or organization. It is named in honor of artist and aviation enthusiast, the late Milton Caniff. Previous recipients include the Civil Air Patrol, the Doolittle Raiders and the Tuskegee Airmen.
