Safety & Risk: Are you a pilot with the Right Stuff?

By General Aviation News Staff · September 7, 2007 ·

Training, good judgment and the right equipment all contribute to ensuring you have what it takes to be the best pilot you can. In this issue, we explore a variety of issues related to safety and risk, starting with the Touch & Go on page 14, which details a new study of what makes a person a superior pilot.

The special report continues on this page with a primer on what to do if you have to ditch in water.

Then we ask: Can a “black box” for GA save lives? Its creator says yes. Meanwhile, another company enters the whole-airplane parachute business, this time with three parachutes. Will the new system fly?

What are the top 10 mistakes pilots make? We all have our lists, but what do air traffic controllers see every day on the job? Some of the items may surprise you, while others may help you become a better pilot.

We’ll continue to bring you stories about safety and risk throughout the year. Meanwhile, fly safe.
