Zenith Aircraft Company’s 16th annual Open Hangar Day and Fly-In Gathering held in late September at the Zenith Aircraft factory in Mexico, Missouri, was dubbed a huge success by company officials.
Dozens of airplanes flew in and hundreds of people participated in the two-day event, which featured educational workshops on everything from scratch-building an airplane to working on Jabiru engines. Other workshops focused on Sport Pilot and piloting tips, while some participants gained hands-on building experience putting together a three-hole binder made of aircraft aluminum, supplied with a CNC-cut Zenith logo, and riveted together with Avex blind rivets.
If you couldn’t make Open Hangar Day, the factory is open Monday through Friday for visits. Zenith also offers monthly two-day workshops, which let potential builders gain hands-on experience in constructing their own kit aircraft. The next workshop is slated for Nov. 8-9.
