Sunset Aviation takes off

By Janice Wood · March 16, 2009 ·

Sunset Aviation, LLC has opened its doors in Petaluma, Calif.

The charter and management company will operate more than 40 aircraft from bases throughout the U.S., including California, Washington, Utah, Texas, Colorado, Ohio, New York, and Florida.

The company is led by executives of the bankrupt Sunset Aviation, Inc. and JetDirect Aviation, including Dan Drohan, who will serve as president and CEO. The senior management team includes Jake Cartwright, John King and Greg Petersen. Also joining the management team are Mark Spindler, Dave Weil and Marla McGatlin, all former JetDirect senior executives.

The company’s headquarters are in Petaluma, with plans to open a San Francisco-area large cabin division office within 30 days. The new company expects to receive its FAA authorization for operations under a new Part 135 certificate soon.

The new company employs more than 80 people, having hired most of the former Sunset Aviation, Inc. employees when they were laid off by JetDirect last week.
