‘Donate, Raffle and Fly’ for Honor Flight Network

By Janice Wood · March 19, 2009 ·

patriots-webThe Honor Flight Network has flown or driven some 18,000 World War II veterans to visit the World War II Memorial, since its dedication four years ago, according to Judy Lemmons, director of public relations and protocol for the organization. The Honor Flight Network is a volunteer group that takes World War II veterans to the memorial in Washington, DC, free of charge.

The Honor Flight Network is holding a fund-raising raffle, the winner of which will have the opportunity to fly with the Patriot Air Demonstration Team, which is providing the flight. Country singer and pilot Aaron Tippin will draw the winning ticket at the Legends Over Madera Air Show, May 29 and 31 at Madera, California.

“Sign up for a once in a life-time opportunity to fly with the Patriot Air Demonstration Team at one of their scheduled 2009 Air Shows,” Lemmon said. “To participate, go to the www.honorflight.org Web site, click on the ‘Donate’ link, then the ‘Donate, Raffle Fly’ link.” Donations and raffle information must be received by Honor Flight no later than May 15 to be eligible to win, she said.

“We have an aggressive schedule in place for 2009, to begin the first of April and conclude on Veterans Day in November,” she told General Aviation News. “Our continued fund-raising efforts have allowed us to facilitate these trips and we hope to continue in earnest this year.”

She concluded: “Unfortunately, time is running out for The Greatest Generation, therefore our time to take them is also running out. We are losing more than 1,000 daily, nationwide,” she stated.

Those are old airplanes from the cold war era, am I right? L29 if I am right… I didn’t know that American aerial performers have old eastern block jets in their fleet…

    Nice show, interesting acrobatics team.
