Renovated FBO opens at NEW

By Janice Wood · March 30, 2009 ·

Flightline First’s new facility at New Orleans’ Lakefront Airport (NEW) opens at the end of April.

The $1.5 million renovation includes a 20,000-square-foot hangar and a complete facility providing high-end FBO services, according to company officials.

“Since Katrina, Lakefront has not had a new facility for customers, so it was important to Flightline First to get this renovation finished as it is the only facility on the field for patrons that is not in a trailer,” remarked Pierre Villere, president.

The individual behind the renovation is well-known New Orleans architect and designer, John Chrestia, AIA, of Chrestia Staub Pierce. The structure was originally built in the late 1920s in the art deco style of that period as a hangar. The renovated structure is directly adjacent to Lakefront’s main terminal building. he building, heavily damaged by Katrina, has undergone a major transformation. The historic nature of the façade has maintained its art deco style, while the interior marries this style with a contemporary, aerodynamic flair, officials said.
