he Virginia Department of Aviation released its 2009 calendar of events on April 1. It includes events ranging from the state’s Aeronautical Historical Society’s spring party to a series of four safety programs.
The Virginia Aeronautical Historical Society will hold its annual Auction and Spring Party at the Virginia Aviation Museum on Richmond International Airport, April 4, from 5:30 -9 p.m. It will include door prizes, an open bar and “heavy hors d’oeuvres.” Tickets are $15.00. The first Virginia Aviation Safety Week program will be held on April 13, 7- 9 p.m., at the Virginia Tech Montgomery County Airport in Blacksburg. The second will be held on April 14 from 7- 9 p.m. at the Danville Regional Airport. On April 15, the third Safety Week program will be held from 7- 9 p.m. at the Virginia Aviation Museum and the last one will be on April 16 from 7- 9 p.m. at the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton. Wings, Wheels, and Ducks, produced by the Rotary Club of Stafford, will take place on October 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Stafford Regional Airport. Airplanes will be on display, there will be a car show, and additional events are planned. For information: www.staffordrotary.org.

The 10th Annual Culpeper Air Fest will be held on Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Culpeper Regional Airport. Static displays, the Flying Circus from Bealeton, warbird flyovers, a wingwalker, Young Eagles flights, and all kinds of aircraft will be parts of the festivities. Admission is free.
