LSA mechanic program gets FAA nod

By Janice Wood · April 10, 2009 ·

Beginning this summer, Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, Va., will offer a program for Light Sport Aircraft Repairman with a Maintenance rating.

BRCC’s program, one of only two in the nation that offer this certification, according to college officials, provides students with skills needed to inspect and maintain LSA.

“We are excited to be the only program of this kind on the East Coast,” said Fred Dyen, assistant professor of aviation maintenance technology at BRCC. “The summer program gives individuals an opportunity to complete the program in just three weeks, and at a fraction of the cost of other programs.”
