AeroVee engine kit upgrade available

By Janice Wood · April 13, 2009 ·

Sonex Aircraft, LLC has introduced another enhancement to the AeroConversions AeroVee Engine Kit.AeroVee engine

The Nikasil Cylinder upgrade package, which reduces the engine weight by just over 9 lbs., is offered at $500 for new engines. Existing AeroVee engine customers can purchase the Nikasil Cylinder upgrade for $750.

“Nikasil Cylinders are quickly becoming a standard feature in high-performance engines,” said Jeremy Monnett, general manager. “Higher-volume production has recently brought the cost of Nikasil coated parts down to a reasonable level for the recreational pilot. It is difficult to find ways to save 9 lbs. on any aircraft, and this weight savings can make a significant difference for Light, Sport class aircraft that can utilize the VW-based AeroVee Engine.”

Nikasil is a trademarked electrodeposited oleophilic nickel matrix silicon carbide coating for piston engine components. AeroVee Nikasil coated aluminum cylinders replace standard cast iron cylinders, saving 37 ounces per cylinder and offering superior resistance to corrosion and wear, company officials said.

AeroConversions Nikasil Cylinder sets include Nikasil-coated aluminum cylinders, graphite-coated cast aluminum pistons, wrist pins, wrist pin snap rings, and piston rings.
