A B-17 flight for World War II veterans

By Janice Wood · April 14, 2009 ·

b17-liberty-belle-webThe Liberty Foundation‘s beautifully restored B-17, “Liberty Belle,” is expected to make her first visit to Hillsboro Airport at Portland, Oregon, on April 20.

The Hillsboro airport will be one of the most important stops on the 2009 tour, thanks to a generous offer made by a Portland man. While asking to remain anonymous, the long-time supporter of the Liberty Foundation donated enough money for ten Portland veterans of World War II to fly aboard “Liberty Belle” during the visit, according to Don Brooks, who had the B-17 restored to honor his father, a World War II B-17 crewman. The offer for any World War II veteran to ask for a flight, and for 10 to be selected, has not been made anywhere, before, Brooks said.
