LoPresti Aviation has granted its 2009 Roy LoPresti Prize for Innovation in Aviation to Bede Inc. for its SpeedTrac wheel pants. The prize was created in the late Roy LoPresti’s name and in his memory by the LoPresti family, to recognize ideas which truly and profoundly offer innovations to general aviation. Each year, “one great idea, one innovative design, will win this award and be recognized as an innovator,” said David LoPresti on May 5.
Last year’s award went to DeltaHawk, which has been working with LoPresti to bring its innovative aviation diesel engine to a wider market. “In this next year you will see their engine gain certification and we will work with them to create STCs for the burgeoning diesel market,” LoPresti said.
LoPresti Aviation is best known as an engineering innovation company. Founder Roy LoPresti was well known for pushing the envelope of aircraft performance. He was responsible for an astonishing string of successful aviation designs, including the Grumman Tiger, Cheetah and Cougar; the Mooney 201,232,252 and 301 all bear his signature; not to mention Grumman’s famous Apollo 11 Lunar Lander and, more recently, the LoPresti Fury. “It is that legacy that has fueled LoPresti Aviation to create and hold more STCs than any other aviation modification company in the world,” LoPresti said. “We treasure and guard that reputation by our constant attention to new technologies and appreciation of creative thinking.”
