Cessna’ Pelton says ‘Our focus stands firm’

By Janice Wood · May 13, 2009 ·

Cessna Aircraft chairman, president and CEO said the current meltdown in business aviation activity is the most profound in many years but it must be kept in perspective when discussing the global role of business aviation, according to an article by Molly McMillan in The Wichita Eagle, May 12.

Pelton’s remarks were made on the opening day of the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland.

“Rather than focus on what we aren’t producing, Cessnans have chosen to focus on what we are producing,” Pelton said. “It is true that we will not produce at the levels anticipated a year ago, but we are going to deliver about 300 Citations in 2009, slightly fewer than in 2010, and these are numbers that in years past would have been cause for celebration.”

Cessna also said on May 12 that it plans to build a new European Citation Service Center at the Valencia Airport in Spain, stating that more than 1,000 Citations are operating in Europe. The new center will complement Cessna’s center in Paris. Within the next six months, site planning development will begin, with specific construction plans to be announced, the company said. Cessna also has reached an agreement with Bell Helicopter, a sister company, to use Bell’s European parts distribution center at Amsterdam to enhance parts distribution to Citation operators in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
