By Janice Wood · May 14, 2009 ·

Girls With Wings is looking for women who are active in aviation, professionally or as an avocation, to participate in a training session to be held at Andover Elementary School, near Minneapolis, on May 26. Attendees will learn how to present interactive and inspirational events for girls in the 1st thru 12th grades, while sharing stories of their own training and careers. Each woman the will be expected to seek out further opportunities in the community “to teach girls everything they need to know” about flying a plane, with hands on instruction.

Girls With Wings is a public awareness project focusing on introducing young girls to role models in aviation-related occupations. Its Website activities and inspirational stories of women involved in various aspects of aviation are intended to motivate girls to “pursue their own skyward adventures,” said the group’s founder, Lynda Meeks, who is a career pilot currently flying Citation Xs for NetJets.
