A 1940s World War II Ball is slated for Saturday, June 13, at Colorado’s Boulder Airport (BDU). Aircraft expected to be on display include the British World War I Fighter SE5 from the Hells Angels Flying Team scene in the movie “The Aviator,” a BT13, a Staggerwing, and the “Pacific Prowler” B-25 Mitchell Bomber.
The Joe Peterson Dance Orchestra, a 10-piece big band, will perform under the nose of the B25 Bomber. Also performing will be The Andrews Sisters Singers and The Timberliners, a 24-person barbershop chorus. There also will be swing dancing (and lessons), wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres.
Brandy Dew will be performing 1940s-style aerialist acts, a Yak landing demo, and a silent auction. The Military Vehicle Collectors of Colorado also will be in attendance with their best 1940s military vehicles and military attire.
There also is a national fly-in scheduled for this event, with 15 cents off per gallon of gas and free overnight/weekend parking for the event (with gas purchase).

How I wish I could be at Boulder for this one!! Apart from being CEO of an aviation company here in the UK, I have what others might call an ‘unhealthy’ interest in Nose Art and when not working I can be found painting! But Hey!! The research is damned entertaining! I am also into the music of the period in a big way! Maybe I was born too late.
If you guys wish to support a similar event at a suitably historic airfield here in the UK, let me know!!
