The Tony Bingelis Scholarship Fund, formerly The Texas Fly-In, has announced the conclusion of a two-year effort to provide funds to young Texans who aspire to careers in aviation. So far, 38 students have received the scholarship awards.
The qualifications for the applicants, in class standing, grade point averages, community service, Scouting and Civil Air Patrol experience, along with letters of recommendation, were simply outstanding, said Stan Shannon of the sponsoring organization. “Even those not selected were very well qualified, and this made the work of the Scholarship committee very demanding,” he said.
A large proportion of the scholarship money was used for flight school training, with somewhat less for university tuition and books, as well as Civil Air Patrol and NASA encampments, Shannon said. “We congratulate each one, and wish them every success as they pursue their aviation careers.”
