The Ohio State Senate has voted to eliminate all state funding – nearly $2.4 million – for aviation activities as part of the state’s next fiscal budget. This cut would eliminate the Ohio Airport Grant Program, airport safety inspections, enforcement of the Ohio Airport Protection Act, printing of aeronautical charters and airport directories, and airport registration for security purposes, including payroll, operating and equipment costs for these activities.
The Ohio House and Senate both have acted on versions of the bill. A conference committee will convene to address the differences between these two versions.
The Ohio Regional Business Aviation Association has recommended going to http://www.legislature.state.oh.us to contact Ohio legislators, highlight the importance of state-funded aviation activities, and encourage restoration of funding for line item 777471, Airport Improvements, if nothing else.
