Carry the right chart case

By Janice Wood · June 19, 2009 ·

The problem with most hard-sided pilot cases is that they were not designed for aviation use, but rather for lawyers and other executives who have to carry voluminous documents, according to the officials at Sporty’s Pilot Shop, who note that pilots require special storage options.

sportyschartcase1That’s why Sporty’s team of pilots and CFIs designed its new line of Chart Cases from the ground up, for exclusive use by pilots.

The Chart Cases provide exterior pockets for cell phone, pens and ID, and a large side pocket can hold radios, logbooks or checklists. On the front, a locking, gusseted file folder holds flight plans, weather printouts and more. A rubber bottom with rugged cleats keeps the case from sliding around.

An interior flashlight strap is designed for D-cell flashlights. Sunglasses and crew logbooks can be stored in removable flap pockets, and the interior is lined to protect expensive and sensitive gear.

Sporty’s offers four different chart cases: classic chart case in either leather or nylon and an XL rolling chart case in either leather or nylon.

Prices start at $199.
