Selkirk Aviation offers composite cowlings

By Janice Wood · July 6, 2009 ·

Selkirk Aviation Inc. has FAA-approved composite cowlings available for all Cessna 180s and 185s along with Cessna 182s years 1959 to 1961 models.

These cowlings are lightweight, easy to repair and come primed ready for the customer to paint, according to officials with the Coeur d’Alene, Idaho-based company. The nose bowls are incorporated into the main upper and lower cowlings. Selkirk provides hardware to attach the upper to the lower cowling and the customer will furnish hardware to attach cowling to the aircraft.

The company, founded by Dave Logue in 1997, also sells interior side panels, glare shields, extended baggage kits, and primed nose bowls. It also has a Repair Station No. LOGR640X and can perform installation of all its products in Coeur d’ Alene.

“The company has been working for several years to develop a better cowling,” Logue said. “We received an STC on earlier Cessna 180 and 182 models about two years ago. In May we added the latest design to our existing STC for the late model Cessna 180, all 185s and Cessna 182 1959 to 1961 models. The latest model design will also work for all the early Cessna 180 and 182s.

“All four category designs of the cowling are ready to bolt onto the aircraft and show negligible weight difference from the factory cowlings,” he continued.

Prices range from $7,000 to $8,900.
