Surf & Turf Fly-In slated

By Janice Wood · September 8, 2009 ·

Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1094 will host its Surf & Turf Fly-In Sept. 11-12, at Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport (KSLR), in northeast Texas, which is home to American Legend Aircraft Co., manufacturers of the Legend Cub.

The event has become a much-anticipated social gathering, complete with antique aircraft exhibits, factory tours, grass strip landings on the adjacent field, water landings on Lake Sulphur Springs, food and beverages, activities for the whole family, and close encounters with the folks who created, and fly the Legend Cub, according to American Legend officials.

The focus of the Surf & Turf Fly-In is to celebrate the joy of flying. Tours of the American Legend facilities, spanning four neighboring hangars on KSLR, will give participants a first-hand look at the manufacturing process, from its literal beginnings as a “box of tubes” in the welding shop, all the way through final assembly and actual delivery of a customer’s aircraft. Conversations will likely include ongoing developments and product improvements. Demonstration flights and airplane rides will be offered. A variety of aircraft will be participating. All are welcome to attend.
