Sky-Tec debuts new Continental starter

By Janice Wood · November 5, 2009 ·

ST5Sky-Tec has unveiled its newest Continental engine starters — the ST5 Series.

The new Continental ST5 series starters are the result of a clean slate engineering approach to addressing customers’ specific needs for a powerful, lightweight starter that is safe for use on all TCM starter adapters, according to company officials.

“Customers with big bore Continental engines have been wanting a safe, strong replacement for their TCM factory OEM ‘Iskra’ starters,” explains Rich Chiappe, general manager of Sky-Tec. “Through the years, TCM engine owners have grown concerned with ‘Iskra’ starter reliability and their possible negative long-term effects on TCM engine starter adapters. Sky-Tec Engineering focused on coupling a lightweight, heavy duty motor with an internal release mechanism that decouples the starter’s powerful permanent magnet motor from the TCM engine’s starter adapter input shaft.”

The result is the new ST5 series starters, which are available from Sky-Tec dealers  in 12-volt and 24-volt models. List prices range from $735 (12V) to $785 (24V).
