EZ Flap now available

By Janice Wood · November 16, 2009 ·

EZFlap 2Aircraft Spruce and Specialty now offers the “EZ Flap” FAA STC-PMA manual flap handle assist device, allowing pilots with the old ”Johnson Bar” flap control to easily reach the flap handle without leaning down in the cockpit or taking their focus off of flying the airplane. The device is FAA approved for Cessna 170-185 aircraft, with Piper PA-28, PA20/22 and PA-18 aircraft being added soon.

For 60 years, pilots have had to lean down and forward into the instrument panel and control yoke to reach the flap handle, said company officials, noting most people can’t even see out of the airplane while they’re leaning forward and down to get the flaps. EZ Flap solves that problem by putting the flap control at the correct distance from the pilot, company officials said.

The EZ Flap is priced at $499, and it installs in 30 minutes with no disassembly or de-rigging, requiring only two small holes.
