Even with its complete pilot training courses on DVD and online, Sporty’s still believes in the time-honored tradition of the weekend ground school and is planning a full schedule of courses at its headquarters at Clermont County/Sporty’s Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sporty’s officials said.“Even in 2010, the weekend ground school has tremendous merit,” says Sporty’s Academy President Eric Radtke. “Our ground school includes our complete pilot training course online or on DVD. When combined with the power of a lively instructor, the pilot candidate can jumpstart his or her study on the way to acing the knowledge exam.”
For 2010 ground schools are scheduled for the private pilot and instrument rating exams. An additional ground school is offered for pilots interested in learning more about gliders.
Private Pilot Ground School is $130. Course material required is Sporty’s Complete Flight Training Course ($199). For 2010, the Private Pilot Ground School will take place on the following weekends (Friday through Sunday): March 12-14; April 16-18; May 21-23; July 16-18; Sept. 10-12. The class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The Instrument Rating Ground School is $150. Course material required is Sporty’s Instrument Rating Course ($249). For 2010, the Instrument Rating Ground School will take place March 26-28; May 7-9; Aug. 20-22. The class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The Transition to Gliders Ground School is an introduction to glider operations for power pilots. Topics include glider aerodynamics, systems, glider performance, speed-to-fly, launch methods and soaring weather. Glider Ground School is $40 and includes an individual copy of Sporty’s Transition to Gliders DVD. For 2010, the Transition to Gliders Ground School will be held April 24 and June 26, from 9 .am. to 5 p.m.
