The Wichita Aero Club will launch its 2010 schedule by hosting Jonathan Gaffney, president of the National Aeronautic Association, as the guest speaker. The Jan. 19 luncheon will begin at noon at the Wichita Airport Hilton.
The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) is the record-keeper for United States aviation. All official records set in the air must be sanctioned by the NAA’s Contest & Records department. The organization provides observers for many record attempts and compiles all the data necessary to certify records. NAA also presents awards each year, including the Robert Collier Trophy, the Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy, and the Katherine Wright Trophy.
Gaffney became 31st president and CEO of the association in July 2007. Before that he was vice president for communications of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the operators of Washington Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airports.
