The Coolidge City Council has unanimously agreed to save a historic World War II-era hangar that has fallen into disrepair at Coolidge Municipal Airport (P08) in Arizona, according to a story in The Arizona Republic.
The story, which notes the council agreed to award a contract for the hangar’s overhaul, including replacement of outdated wiring and asbestos exterior shingles, reports: “The cavernous hangar, built to house World War II aircraft during the airport’s mission as a pilot training airfield and maintenance facility, has been a guidepost for countless pilots for 67 years.”
The hangar also has is a gathering place for pilots and aviation buffs. The first Saturday of every month, the hangar’s operator, Coolidge Aviation LLC, holds a fly-in breakfast served by the Coolidge Lion’s Club.
