Talk about a ‘snowbird’

By Janice Wood · February 14, 2010 ·

high-b-25taxiWarbird Adventures and Kissimmee Air Museum at Kissimmee Gateway Airport (ISM) in Florida, recently became the winter home for “Tondelayo,” a North American B-25 Mitchell, which will be in Florida until May

The aircraft flew in the Doolittle Raid, America’s first military attack on Japan after Pearl Harbor. In the 345th Bomb Group, 5th Air Force, the Tondelayo is credited with shooting down 10 Japanese aircraft and sinking a ship.

The Tondelayo is on loan from The Collings Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving historic events in the transportation industry. Flights in the bomber are available for a tax-deductible donation of $325 to $400, depending on seating choice. Flight reservations are required.

Warbird Adventures and the Kissimmee Air Museum are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For more information: 800-386-1593 or WarbirdAdventures.com.
