Flight for the Human Spirit reaches more than 1 million people so far

By Janice Wood · April 27, 2010 ·

Every day brings new milestones for The Flight for the Human Spirit, which now has more than 3,600 miles behind the tail and roughly 16,000 to go.

“We now have over 125,000 hits a day on our website,” said pilot Michael Combs. “Even our podcasts are consistently getting between 400 and 800 listens every day. But the greatest number that I can report to you today is that we have officially reached 1.247 million people.”

The core mission of The Flight for the Human Spirit is to tell 20 million people that it is never ever too late to follow your dreams. It is a goal that Combs set early in the planning process for his flight.

“I know that on a percentage basis it seems that we are behind, but actually we are slightly ahead of our initial projections,” said Combs via telephone from Indiana. “This is one of those flights that will continue to build momentum as I fly further and further. As it always is, the media looks at the early stages of this flight as a human interest story, not news. Only aviation fans are the ones who have the foresight to see what is coming on the horizon of this incredible journey.”

In spite of Combs’ claim, local markets have covered the story in nearly every one of his stops, which has been helping to boost the followers upward to the current point of over a million. Watching the daily comments from his fans even when he is delayed due to weather has proven that there is continued interest in this mission, whether he is flying or not.

The flight took off from Salina, Kan., April 8 and will stop in 135 cities and towns across the U.S. To follow along: FlightHS.com
