Sporty’s Instrument Rating Course updated

By Janice Wood · April 28, 2010 ·

Because of the ever-changing advancements in avionics procedures and techniques, Sporty’s Complete Instrument Rating Course has been updated, including new video and graphics, Sporty’s officials report, noting in-depth coverage has been given to flight directors, HSI, autopilots, night IFR, high-performance engine management, turbocharging, pressurization, oxygen use, high-altitude flying and RNAV approaches.

As the transition to glass cockpits evolves, the Instrument Rating Course teaches topics using both glass panels and analog steam gauge flight instruments. The segment on autopilots covers the Bendix/King KAP 140 and Garmin GFC-700 and highlights the key features you need to know to fly IFR. Scenario-based training shows how to fly an ILS approach using either autopilot.

New with this update of Sporty’s Complete Instrument Rating Course are expanded segments on GPS, covering en route IFR operations and approach procedures using the Garmin 430W.

“We added the latest GPS segment to help pilots make the most out of their GPS units,” said Sporty’s Academy Vice President Bret Koebbe. “The video uses scenario-based training to show both the setup and flying of several procedures with the Garmin 430W, including WAAS LPV and LNAV+V RNAV approaches.”

Sporty’s Complete Instrument Rating Course is available in either DVD or Online formats for $265. For more information: Sportys.com or 800-SPORTYS.
