ACI-NA awards scholarships

By Janice Wood · May 4, 2010 ·

Airports Council International-North America’s (ACI-NA) Commissioners Committee awarded two scholarships of $2,500 each to aviation students at the recent ACI-NA Airport Board Members & Commissioners Conference. Recipients include Jonathan Oaks, an undergraduate student at Everglades University in Orlando, Florida, and Michael Clow, a graduate student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Commissioners’ Committee Scholarship is designed to encourage and promote excellence in the educational areas necessary for effective airport management or operation. The ACI-NA Commissioners’ Committee has awarded more than 30 scholarships, totaling more than $100,000 to students within the past 17 years.

ACI-NA Commissioners established the Scholarship Fund in October 1993 to recognize students with high academic achievement who are working toward a career in airport management or airport operations. The scholarship program recognizes the importance of the highly specialized education necessary for an individual to fill the complex and multi-disciplined role of being a professional airport administrator or airport operator.

Oaks attends Everglades University where he will complete his Masters Degree in Aviation Technology in the fall 2010. He has earned a grade point average (GPA) of 4.0 for his academic work in Aviation Technology, and his goal upon completing the program is to secure an airport management and/or operations position.

Clow attends Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is working to receive a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in aviation management. He currently serves as the senior manager for Tallahassee Regional Airport, and his goal upon completing the program in May 2011 is to serve as a director for a commercial service airport.
