Indianapolis businessman Leon Riggs, owner of United Package Liquors, has been selected as the 2010 Indiana Aviator of the Year by the Indianapolis Air Show.
“It was a unanimous decision this year to honor Le Riggs with this award,” said Chairman Bob Duncan. “In addition to being a successful businessman and philanthropist, Le actively flew throughout the Midwest performing in various air shows. He enjoyed aerobatics and everything about being in an airplane. Le is a long-time friend of the air show and we are excited to introduce him to the spectators during the opening ceremonies of the air show.” The Indianapolis Air Show kicks off June 11 at Mt. Comfort Airport (MQL).
Riggs opened up his first liquor store in Indianapolis in 1964 and he now employs 200 people at 28 liquor stores in Indiana and Kentucky. He also owns LOR Corp., which owns and operates 39 retail strip centers.
The 14th Annual Indianapolis Air Show, which goes through June 13, will feature walkers, aerobatics, smoke, military planes and a flying circus.
Performers include the world’s only P-51 Horsemen Aerobatic Team, the USAF A-10 (Thunderbolt II) East Demo Team and the US Navy F/A-18 E/F Super Hornets, as well as Red Bull Air Race champion Michael Goulian and his Extra300SHP.
As a thank you, active duty members of the U.S. military may attend for free by showing their military ID.
