Pilots, aviation enthusiasts and those simply looking for a fun time are invited to attend the WHAS Crusade for Children Aviation Poker Run, presented by GlobalAir.com and Eagle Aviation. Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday June 26, following a pancake breakfast for pilots.
Planes will fly out of Bowman Field (LOU) in Louisville, Kentucky, making stops throughout north-central Kentucky at airports in Frankfort (FFT), Lebanon (6I2), Bardstown (BRY) and Elizabethtown (EKX) before returning to Louisville. At each stop, pilots will pick up playing cards, with the best hands winning prizes. Entry fees and proceeds from the event will go to the WHAS Crusade for Children, a Kentucky-based charity that benefits area special-needs children.
As pilots return to Bowman Field at noon, a spaghetti lunch will be served at the Aero Club of Louisville, located at the airport. Other festivities include airplane rides, a performance by the country-rock band Edgewood, a Monte Carlo fundraiser and kids’ activities, including an inflatable bouncing gym, dunking booth and paper airplane competition.
A raffle also will be held Saturday at the Aero Club. Prizes include autographed memorabilia from University of Louisville coaches Rick Pitino and Charlie Strong, a flight around the city from Classic Biplane Tours, free tech support from Robinson Technical & Financial Management Services, tickets to the Alley Theater’s upcoming production of “Point Break Live,” plus sightseeing flights and a complete flight lesson from Eagle Aviation, among other prizes.
