New series of How-To DVDs available

By Janice Wood · July 5, 2010 ·

Wicks Aircraft Supply is now offering a new series of DVDs designed to make aircraft construction and maintenance an easier process. Eight different DVDs cover everything from scratchbuilding with metal to choosing an experimental powerplant in the 80-120 hp range.

“Scratch Building Basics for Metal Aircraft” is a Metalworking 101 program that starts with reading plans, building wooden blocks for metal bending, drilling, deburring, use of clecos, and riveting. “Building a Glass Panel” starts with a metal panel and goes through panel planning, cutting and finishing the panel, what instruments to select and how to wire them…including an EFIS and traditional steam gauges, and what options are available. The “Weight and Balance” DVD takes homebuilders through the step-by-step process of completing the FAA’s Weight and Balance document which is required for aircraft licensing. “How to License Your Homebuilt Aircraft” covers the rest of the documents required by the FAA, explains how to get the documents, what happens during the inspection process, and what you can do to expedite that process. “The 912 Competition” DVD provides information on seven engines that fall into the 80 to 120 hp range and which could be considered as options to the Rotax 912. Other titles include: “601XL Quick Build Tips and Techniques”, “Rotax 912 Installation”, and “Jabiru 3300/Zenith 601 Engine Installation Workshop”. The Homebuilt Help series of DVDs range in price from $24 to $38 and vary in length from 1 to 3.5 hours.
