San Diego museum opens 3D/4D theater

By Janice Wood · July 13, 2010 ·

The San Diego Air & Space Museum recently opened its new 3D/4D Zable Theater. The theater uses the newest 3D technologies but takes it to the next level, employing interactive seats and special effects built into the theater itself. The theater seats 36 guests per show, and they are played continuously each day. Films include “Jetpack Adventure” and “Fly Me To The Moon.”

The museum also is opening a special play area for kids, the Kid’s Aviation Action Hangar (KAAH), with attractions for kids of all ages. Preschoolers enjoy magnetic toys and aviation coloring books, and art equipment to sketch their favorite airplane, and pedal planes to whisk them around a kid-size airport. Grade school age aviators will thrill to the “U-Fly-It” flight simulator experience, in a real wind tunnel atmosphere and they’ll also enjoy a romp on the moon’s surface in space suits. Two high fidelity flight simulators put future pilots’ skills to the test; and every age will enjoy creating and flying their own miniature parachutes.
