‘I wanna blimp ride’

By Janice Wood · July 18, 2010 ·

Five lucky attendees at EAA AirVenture 2010 will be taken for a ride of a lifetime in the “Spirit of Goodyear” blimp as winners in the “I Wanna Blimp Ride” Sweepstakes. The 58th annual edition of EAA AirVenture will be held July 26-Aug. 1 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

The five sweepstakes winners will take to the skies over the AirVenture grounds and northeast Wisconsin for a one-hour ride aboard the “Spirit of Goodyear” beginning at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, July 30, conditions permitting. Entries will be accepted beginning 9 a.m. on Monday, July 26, through 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, at the following booths on the AirVenture grounds: Goodyear Aviation (Booth 2131), Aircraft Spruce (Booths 1022 to 1029), and Desser Tire (Booth 1038). Sweepstakes winners will be notified via telephone on the evening of Thursday, July 29.

“We are happy that the world-famous Goodyear Blimp will again be part of the festivities at Oshkosh!” said Eric Varndell, Global Marketing Manager for Goodyear Aviation tires. “It’s a dream of many pilots and aviation enthusiasts to have this unique aviation experience, and we are excited to once again provide the opportunity to fly ‘low and slow’ in the Goodyear blimp for a few lucky AirVenture attendees.”

The “Spirit of Goodyear,” which will arrive on Tuesday, July 27, and depart on Monday, Aug. 2, will be flying regularly during the festivities. It will be moored near the EAA AirVenture Museum’s Pioneer Airport for up-close viewing at other times, giving visitors a unique view of an aircraft that is commonly seen only from afar.
