WINGsReality has been authorized by the FAA as a training provider in the WINGS Program.
In order to earn WINGS credit, participants must complete a full six-week season of the online interactive reality show. Each week, judges critique each pilot and provide feedback to reinforce good decisions and actions, and to provide quality training to those who needed some improvement, explained Michael Lessard, co-founder.
The FAA’s WINGS Program contains a list of topics and syllabi that may be used by training providers to develop coursework for WINGS credit. Training Providers must demonstrate that their coursework meets the training requirements of the syllabi as well as minimum time spent in the training. In the first season, WINGsReality covered 60% of the listed topic areas, and pilots completed between 30 to 40 hours of training, Lessard said.
WINGsReality Pilots really have to get back to the books in order to do well in the game. “The time spent in ‘back to basics’ training coupled with the constant evaluation and feedback makes for one of the best safety education programs available to pilots,” Lessard said.
In addition to the online contestant pilots, anyone can play along with WINGsReality from their home or office. WINGsReality is working on a testing program so that non contestant pilots who play from home can also earn WINGS credit.
Co-founder Robert Clements adds that WINGsReality has some new additions to the website for the upcoming season. “Many of the industry’s most innovative organizations have called to team up with us. Watch for lots of new graphics, video, simulation and some other surprises that we can’t tell you about just yet!”
