Donaldson receives PMA approval for filters

By Janice Wood · August 5, 2010 ·

Donaldson Aerospace & Defense, a division of Donaldson Company, a manufacturer of filtration systems and parts, has received FAA-PMA approval for three new dry media inlet air filters for normally aspirated Piper Aircraft models including the Aztec, Comanche, Cherokee/Warrior/Archer, Arrow, Dakota, Cherokee Six, Saratoga/Lance, Seneca and Seminole. These new general aviation engine air filters take advantage of the latest filtration technologies and provide customers with advanced dry synthetic alternatives to traditional oiled or foam filters, according to company officials.

Donaldson developed oiled filter media in the 1930s. Since then, the company has developed upgraded, dry media barrier filters to increase filter life and provide engine protection for general aviation platforms, company officials explained. Manufactured using pleated dry synthetic media, Donaldson’s filters last 500 flight hours, three years of service or five cleanings — whichever comes first — and require no messy oils or cleaning agents, company officials said.
