Adventure Package for Carbon Cub SS unveiled

By Janice Wood · August 23, 2010 ·

CubCrafters, responding to growing customer demand, has taken the Carbon Cub SS and reconfigured it into a high-performance, single-place aircraft dubbed the Adventure Package.

Development of the Adventure Package involved major structural changes, according to company officials. For example, the 3×3 landing gear positions the axle lower and farther forward than a Carbon Cub SS, providing a great angle of attack (for shorter takeoff and landing) and more effective, predictable and stable braking, officials note. The 26-inch tundra tires and an upgraded tail wheel increase landing options. Fuel tank capacity was increased 83%, to 44 gallons (43 usable) for a usable range of 800 miles or more between fueling stops. The rear co-pilot seating and flight controls of the Carbon Cub SS are gone, making room for much more gear. For added convenience loading and unloading, an extra door was added. The Adventure Edition complies fully with all standards for the Light Sport Airplane category.

CubCrafters’ Owner and Chairman Jim Richmond comments, “Of course, this airplane isn’t for everybody. It’s single place, outfitted to bring adventurous pilots and their gear in and out of rough, remote areas. It’s extremely powerful and responsive. Still, for many years, we’ve been getting requests for this type of configuration, because, to put it most directly, they’re a hellava lot of fun.”
