More power to you

By Janice Wood · August 30, 2010 ·

Mid-Continent Instruments’ MD50 500 VA Static Inverter, one in the company’s new line of True Blue Power products, has received TSO-C73 certification from the FAA.

“The MD50 static inverter is ideal for passengers requiring outlet electricity during flight,” said Tom Genovese, director of sales for Mid-Continent Instruments. “We are seeing a growing demand for access to cabin power so that passengers can charge cell phones, entertainment systems or laptop computers and stay productive during flight.”

The DC-to-AC static inverter produces 115 volts at 60 Hz for 500 watts of “wall outlet” power from an aircraft’s 28 VDC input. Smaller and lighter than traditional inverters, the MD50 has the same connector and footprint of legacy designs, plus overload and short-circuit protection up to 150% of the rated load. The inverter was designed to be a drop-in replacement for other similar legacy inverters, utilizing the same connector and mounting option. It can also be used in forward-fit applications for customers wanting to add 115 VAC outlets in new installations.

True Blue Power is a new line of power products designed and manufactured by Mid-Continent Instruments. Current production includes aircraft inverters, to be followed by batteries and emergency batteries.
