What reportedly happened: As the pilot started the takeoff roll the airplane’s door opened. The pilot continued with the takeoff and simultaneously tried to close the door. The airplane did not gain enough altitude to clear trees next to the runway.
Probable cause: The failure to attain sufficient altitude to avoid the trees during initial climb. The failure to ensure the security of the door before takeoff and the unintentional opening of the door were factors.

I had a door open on me in flight-It is no big deal if you deal with it properly. The correct procedure is to circle and land-close the door and then go on with your flight. The air pressure will not allow the door to open far enough to be a safety hazard. It may cause some swirling wind and noise-but there is no reason to let this small diversion divert your attention. In diverting his attention during a crucial phase in flight, he did not maintain the needed altitude-I am sure he knows this and will use the proper procedures in the future.
