By Janice Wood · September 2, 2010 ·

Kansas State University at Salina has hired Lowell James Hinchee as a full-time aviation instructor. In addition to teaching in the classroom, Hinchee will help oversee flight training operations.

Hinchee is a Master Certified Flight Instructor-Aerobatic with nearly 8,000 flight hours and more than 30 years of aviation experience. He has served as an assistant professor of aviation at the University of Louisiana-Monroe; general manager and owner of Foundation Flyers Flight School, Winter Haven, Fla.; deputy ground school instructor for Orlando Flight Training, Kissimmee, Fla.; and flight operations manager for Rabigh Wings Flight School, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from University of Louisina-Lafeyette.

Adjacent to a 12,000-foot runway, K-State Salina has a fleet of more than 40 aircraft and more Master Certified Flight Instructors than any other college or university in the country, according to university officials. K-State Salina offers degrees in aircraft maintenance, professional pilot, technology management and engineering technology. Certificate programs are available in air traffic control, airframe and powerplant, airport management, avionics maintenance technology and unmanned aerial systems.
