Laser-Gard eyewear debuts

By Janice Wood · September 6, 2010 ·

Sperian Protection has introduced Laser-Gard Eyewear to protect pilots from flash blindness caused by red and green lasers.

The patented lenses also protect against glare and provide 99.9% ultraviolet protection. Laser-Gard Eyewear’s lenses come in a bronze tint for daytime sunglass use or a salmon tint for nighttime vision. They are available in three frame styles with multiple adjustments.

Pilots and law enforcement personnel worldwide are increasingly exposed to red and green lasers that cause flash blindness. Such visual distractions are especially hazardous during takeoff and landing, and can create a critical situation in the cockpit unless pilots are wearing suitable eye protection, company officials note.
