Lesson Plan Guides help CFIs stay organized

By Janice Wood · September 7, 2010 ·

Flight instructors need a lesson plan guide for each student, to ensure that every element is covered and to serve as a permanent record of training. Sporty’s now offers its Complete Lesson Plan Guides. These comprehensive packages, developed by the CFIs at Sporty’s Academy, will organize every ground and flight lesson, so instructors can spend less time preparing and more time teaching. Plus, they can protect CFIs’ certificates from future liability.

The Training Course Outline is a series of FAA-approved lesson plans (both ground and flight lessons) that takes pilots from zero flight experience to the checkride. Each individual lesson plan includes lesson objectives, recommended training times, specific introductory and review items, required student study items, and completion standards. This book ensures standardization and serves as a permanent “paper trail” to document a students’ training history, according to Sporty’s officials.

The Ground Lesson Guide is a step-by-step guide that expands on the ground lessons found in the Training Course Outline. It includes diagrams, illustrations, key points and reference materials to ensure the CFI is properly prepared to teach the subject. No more valuable lesson time is wasted deciding which topics to cover or trying to find an answer buried deep in an FAA reference book. The answers are right at your fingertips and flow directly along with the lesson.

The PTS Study Guide is the entire FAA Practical Test Standards cross-referenced to Sporty’s Complete Flight Training Course. With this guide, the CFI can assign homework and review segments in Sporty’s course (DVD or online) by simply identifying which items in the PTS require attention.

Even though the Complete Lesson Plan Guides are designed to accompany Sporty’s Complete Flight Training Course, it works equally well as a stand-alone CFI resource, Sporty’s officials note.

Complete Lesson Plan Guides are available for Private Pilot and Instrument Rating training. Each is approximately 250 pages, in paperback, full of diagrams and illustrations. Each is available for $34.95, or both can be purchased for $54.95.
