1,000th RV-8 flies

By Janice Wood · September 21, 2010 ·

On Friday, Sept. 17, the “Hobbs Meter” on Van’s Aircraft, Inc.’s website registered the 1,000th RV-8  to fly.

That number represents an average of a new RV-8 (or its sibling, the tricycle gear RV-8A) in the air every fifth day since the design was introduced in 1996.

There are about 2,000 RV-8/8As under construction, company officials note, adding new ones should be flying with regularity.

Sometime in November, company officials said they expect the 7,000th RV to fly. Just where the event will happen, nobody knows — RVs have shipped to 45 different countries.
