Calls to close U42

By Janice Wood · September 21, 2010 ·

City leaders have enlisted the help of Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, to address safety concerns related to South Valley Regional Airport (U42) in West Jordan near Salt Lake City, according to a report in the Deseret News, which quotes Chaffetz as saying: “They’ve had a couple accidents recently, and there’s a real safety concern. I believe that West Jordan should explore the possibility of asking Salt Lake City to close the airport.” Read the full report here.

James Sloat – The language you are using is offensive and doesn’t help your point at all. It’s one thing to oppose a view constructively.

    It’s time you evolved.

South valley Utah airport has a lesser accident rate by far than their auto accidents in the city. Most people accept the risk of jaywalking, Traveling a two way street next to the center line where 35 MPH head-on accident yields a 70 MPH impact at only 3-4 feet be tween the two lanes, they accept that also! We also assume people will stop at stop signs. We also assume people won’t text while driving a car.Over 4,000 deaths in the US linked to texting. Yet not all States have a law against texting. I think a Airports ownership should reflect a clause that says if you make us move our airport or close our airport that you better be ready to build us a new one a little farther out of the city! If you want to see some great planning language check out the CITY of SCOTTSDALE AZ airport. They have done their homework! Cities around airports are now preparing new language about people moving close to a airport in those subdivisions close by. RISK- A – VERS… Education on the facts and value to a city that a airport brings. No different then a football field or soccer field to a school. I would expect more injuries at a football or soccer field. Ask a resident and they’ll tell you if you play sports accept the risk. Education of the public. Attend in mass at public meetings for educating the public. Invite them out to the airport. Have a airport DAY and let the residents attend. Combo – Airplane show, car show, breakfast by a local Charity group and on and on. You get the picture. We can live to together when every is on the same page. Ron in Oregon

Chaffetz is nothing short of a common thug terrorist. AND…we are currently fighting other terrorists in the name of saving KSMO. Henry Waxman and Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl are savoring in their own slime at slowly closing KSMO endorsing community groups against our own local airport. These people MUST be stopped. Is the Mormon cult endorsing terrorist Chaffetz? If we do not stop these terrorits in their tracks, they will close every local airport around the country. Just look at what happened in the middle of the night in Chicago when that little smuck Daley sent bulldozers into Meigs Field.
