Golf tournament benefit Wings of Hope

By Janice Wood · September 26, 2010 ·

The Greater St. Louis Business Aviation Association (GSLBAA) recently hosted its 34th Annual Memorial Open, raising nearly $25,000 for the Wings of Hope Medical Relief and Air Transport (MAT) Program.

The MAT is the only free air ambulance service in North America, according to association officials. Wings of Hope began this program in 2003 to serve patients located primarily in the Mid-western states. These patients typically have limited insurance coverage or lack the ability to navigate the complex rules of Medicaid. The MAT locates advanced treatment and transports these patients, often children with severe birth defects or rare diseases, in fully-equipped air ambulances to wherever the best specialty care is offered. This free service is provided for as long as it takes to affect a cure.

Wings of Hope is a non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political organization operating 152 bases throughout the world. It was founded in 1962 to provide sustained efforts to deliver programs to provide for peace and hope. It  also operates the Medical Relief and Air Transport Program from St. Louis.
