AvTurf debuts

By Janice Wood · September 28, 2010 ·

AvTurf LLC has developed and patented an artificial turf system for airports, that can replace the natural turf groundcover at an airport to control erosion issues, reduce the debris-causing effects of jet blast, deter birds and animals, and stabilize runway/taxiway shoulders and infield islands. It also enhances visibility to pilots on approach, reduces maintenance needs in safety areas, and provides stable areas for emergency response vehicles to drive through the turf and directly to a situation, according to company officials.

The company entered into an “exclusive strategic alliance” with ACT Global Sports, which is a leading artificial grass manufacturer, according to AvTurf’s Vice President of Sales and Operations Daniel McSwain.

AvTurf and ACT Global are working together on airport projects at Boston Logan International (BOS) and Baltimore Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI).
