7,000 and counting at Van’s

By Janice Wood · October 17, 2010 ·

The “Hobbs Meter” of completed aircraft on Van’s Aircraft’s website hit 7,000 Oct. 12 when RV-12 builder Ron Jagels of Novato, Calif., reported the first flight of his homebuilt.

“RV-12 N647RM completed her first flight (this) morning. Construction started in May of 2009… the materials and detailed instructions made it a real pleasure to build. The first flight was great. You read about ‘uneventful’ first flights but I don’t think this is really true. Nothing can replace the adrenaline rush when you take flight in your project. As I experienced with the RV-8A I built a few years ago, the RV-12 performed exactly as it was supposed to. It is nimble and really fun to fly.”

“The entire crew at Van’s would like to congratulate Ron and thank every one of our customers,” said Van’s President Scott Risan. “This amazing milestone certainly would not have happened without an extremely loyal and competent customer base. We hope that this significant number will motivate those that are still building and those that are dreaming of building their own airplane.”

That same day, Van’s received a first flight report on completed RV number 7001, beginning the countdown to 8,000.
