Street renamed to honor Texas aviation icon

By Janice Wood · October 27, 2010 ·

General Aviation Avenue near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas was renamed Emma Browning Avenue Oct. 26 to honor the woman who helped pioneer aviation in Central Texas. According to a story from the Community Impact Newspaper, Emma and her husband Robert Browning helped train World War II pilots and opened their aerial service business in the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, where they also gave flying lessons. Browning, who passed away in April, was inducted into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame in 2005 as “Austin’s First Lady of Aviation.”
