Flabob Veteran’s Day celebrations Nov. 6

By Janice Wood · November 2, 2010 ·

With fly-overs and fly-ins featuring a variety of antique, classic, homebuilt and warbird aircraft, this year’s annual Veteran’s Day celebration at Flabob Airport (RIR) in Southern California is expected to draw close to 5,000 people. Set for Saturday, Nov. 6, the event will begin at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day. Parking and participation in the day’s activities are all free, with the exception of food and beverages.

Hosted by the Wathen Foundation, there will be static displays on the field, vendors, hands-on activities for adults and children and as many as three bands playing at one time. The Army will again set up special displays including scaling walls and simulators. There will also be a large display of antique and classic automobiles.

A series of comedians, musicians and martial arts displays will keep the central stage busy all day and there will be a wide variety of foods available throughout the daylight hours. At noon there will be a special ceremony honoring all branches of the military. That will be followed by the annual parade with veterans as featured guests in the activity.

All day it will be possible to purchase airplane rides in an N3N or J-3 Cub. The EAA Chapter One Hangar will be used for a number of displays. For more information: 951-683-2309, ext. 104, or Flabob.org
