Terry Small, of Prescott, Ariz., has become the 1,000th customer to complete and fly an RV-7. His first flight brought the total number of RVs complete and flown to 7,088.
About 10 years of off/on construction were interrupted by a year in Afghanistan and five moves. But Small stuck with it and on Dec. 5 his RV-7 N174TD, took to the air.
“What …a wonderful magic carpet ride,” he said. “I owe special thanks to my son, who began the project with me and many times countered that ‘what have I gotten myself into’ look on my face, and another thank you to my lovely fiance, who was always there with help.”
The RV-7 and its sibling, the tricycle gear RV-7A, were introduced in 2000. At least 3,000 more are under construction all over the world.
