MatchBox Aeronautical Systems unveiled a new line of aviation electronics designed and engineered by pilots for pilots at last month’s U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Fla.
With its engineering and manufacturing facility based in Palm Coast, Florida, (XFL) MatchBox set its mission goals on delivering a host of electronic accessories for all pilots whether they are aircraft owners or not.
Beginning as a flight school owned and operated by a retire Flying Tigers/FedX pilot and partnering with a corporate pilot/electrical engineer, the Matchbox team set their sights on filling a void of peripheral aeronautical products missing in the aviation market. The goal was to design and build state-of-the art electronics with a high degree of accuracy at reasonable costs to the avid pilot supporting safety, comfort, and convenience, company officials said.
Matchbox’s flagship handheld unit is the Flight Companion Model FC-1, which houses an accurate Altitude Alert system keeping the marriage of pilot and ATC happy, a digital Tank Timer for accurate fuel management, high powered headphone audio power amplifies for high quality audio with low noise levels, and a new cell phone interface system designed for low noise and harmonic distortion.
Each feature set of the FC-1 is also sold separately in small compact cases, which are about the size of a matchbox.
“As a flight school and CFI we were always looking for portable accessory products that can help not only flight students but also veteran pilots,” said Randy Patterson, president. ” Now with my experience and my partner’s electrical engineering background we have the power to build it ourselves right here in the USA.”
MatchBox Aeronautical Systems will be exhibiting its new products at next month’s Sun ‘n Fun, in Hangar E, Space 31.
